To prepare:
•Reflect on the various quality improvement models and their application in health care.
•Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each model.
•Consider how these models have been, or could be, applied in your practice setting.
•Based on your selected area of need, define a practice problem and create a corresponding mission statement.
•Investigate baseline data, and evaluate why this practice problem is a priority for improvement. Ask yourself: How does this practice problem in my organization compare to other organizations?
Now write cohesive response that addresses the following:
1. Summarize any practice problem relevant to your setting of interest and share your mission statement. Use (Challenges Facing Nursing Education in Clinical Practice.
2. Be sure to include the data that justifies why you feel a change is needed in this specific area.
3. Explain how the PDSA model might be applied , giving specific reasoning as to why this model best fits the needs of your practice problem. Describe how the practice problem you describe might be of interest to any accreditation initiative.
4. Include an introduction and a conclusion, in text citations and subheadings
Questions play a very crucial role in understanding evidence based practice. According to (Catts, & Falk, 2011).questions are the driving force behind Evidence Based This research paper will show questions formulated to help understand one of the problems faced in the nursing career and how it affects the general population.
Summary in Area of Interest
The area of interest in research that is of outmost interest to me is inadequate practical knowledge on nursing during the process of learning and practice. Lack of adequate practice will hinder the performance of nurses in that nurses will not be in a position to properly diagnose, prescribe and treat patients as required which may lead to lose of lives. Analyzing the problem of inadequate training will significantly reduce deaths that occur as a result of the problem. This research will reflect on a clear understanding of the problem and suggestive measures that can be taken to ensure that practical knowledge is conducted well during the process of nursing education worldwide (Newell, Burnard, & Newell, 2011).
Do nurses get adequate practical knowledge on nursing during training?
Adequate practical knowledge entails currying out research and putting into practical and theoretically form the skills learned during training. Action based research is specifically designed for this mode of study. Students are required to conduct field studies to facilitate better understanding. Unfortunately, research has shown that many students do not take the time to complete scholarly projects and therefore fail to conduct crucial researches which could improve knowledge. Instead, most students pair up in groups to plagiarize work or copy from friends. However, it is important for nursing students to note that, practical learning is a highly compelling method for nursing. Studies have revealed that changes in working experiences and improved technology have increased demands for a continuous reconstruction of expertise in the medical sector. A number of interviews conducted during these studies have showed that practical training increases the student’s understanding of theoretical knowledge and motivation to study (Catts, & Falk, 2011).
What is the role of teachers in practical training?
Teachers and lecturers are responsible for instilling knowledge to students. Due to this fact, it is imperative for teachers to make sure that students acquire practical skills and knowledge required for advanced professionals. Teachers should encourage the students to rehearse reflective skills during theoretical studies so as to create time for students to comprehend what is being taught in class. This will permit adequate development of reflective skills. In addition, teachers should involve students in role plays and experiential modes of teaching to enable students develop good communication skills, team building and to be sensitized on patient experiences. On the contrary, research has shown that some teachers and mentors have not acquired the experience needed to properly train nurses (Jarvis & Gibson, 2009).
What role does the industry play in developing practical skills on nursing?
The industry at large also plays a key role in the development of practical skills of nurses during learning. The industry should be able to embrace learners who are fresh in the industry to transform them into skillful professionals. It has been realized that many health institutions tend to go for experienced personnel than newly graduate personnel seeking experience to further training in the field of nursing. This hinders he development of young nurses and greatly affects the growth of experience nurses in the healthcare field. On the contrary, neither the government nor the private industry offer nurses opportunities to grow. In other to get experienced nurses, the industry and or government has to provide some form of support either internship positions, scholarships or financial assistance to actively provide opportunities to put theoretical knowledge into practice. Practical achievement will not only make the nurses perfect in the field, but will ensure the provision of adequate and professional nurses with enhanced skills.
Do nursing students take part in field research studies?
As mention in many articles, field research studies are the basis of learning. Research analysis provides learners with crucial information that can be used in a number of ways to improve learning and the development of skills. Students, who conduct researches during learning, develop more advanced skills in the fields of study; therefore are better workers in the society (Butterworth, Faugier & Burnard, 2008).
What are the effects of inadequate practical skills in nursing?
Inadequate practical skills in nursing affect the general population in a number of ways. Over a period of time, studies have shown that a well-skilled nursing workforce contributes to low hospital mortality, reduced costs and strengthened health services. This means the society will be lacking skilled workforce in patient care if nurses are not properly trained. Technology will also be hindered due to lack of skillful personnel to operate advanced health tools and equipments.
How does this problem affect the society?
P Population); patients and expectant mothers in the society,
I (Intervention); enhancement of practical learning,
C (Comparison); Trained and experienced nurses vs. unskilled and untrained nurses in the healthcare industry.
O (Outcome); Advanced and skilled workforce.
Key words
Practical knowledge, practical training, research information, expertise, reflective skills, skilled workforce, advanced technology, project research, experienced training and theoretical experience.
